The central Haras courtyard is set in over two hectares (five acres) of gardens and grounds, extending to approximately 120 hectares (300 acres) of productive pastureland.
Almé overlooks the formal French garden parterre from both floors while Baloubet has a super view of the private lake and stream running through the property.
At the top of the courtyard you can find the games room with table tennis table, pool table and children’s activity toys as well as bookshelves of holiday reading. Walk on through the gate by the main house to access the sunken formal water lily and rose garden and also the 20 metre shared swimming pool, surrounded by lawns and mature trees.
Two private tennis courts owned by the Haras are a four minute stroll down the lane, while a barbeque and children’s play area are located in sloping lawns, shaded by a stand of tall poplars tucked behind the west wing of the courtyard.
You are free to walk through any of the tree and hedge lined fields set aside for haymaking (i.e. which contain no livestock) and where it’s possible to catch sight of common local fauna such as muntjac (cerf aboyeur) deer especially in the early mornings and evenings and also the super-fast (they can run at up to 70km/h!) brown European hares (les lièvres).
We see regularly over 40 species of birds at the Haras from the familiar swallows, herons, buzzards, sparrow hawks, woodpeckers, barn owls, mallards, pairs of white egrets as well as more unusual European species like black redstarts.
Horse lovers can watch the showjumpers being trained in the 18th century covered round pen or the large open air ménage.
